Approving Brands

One of the slower tasks here is to ensure we have clean data – or as clean as we can get it.  When you input a Pipe or Tobacco Brand that does not exist in the database it goes to an approval page where we can review it and accept it into the database so everyone is able to choose it in the future.  We also give you credit for submitting new brands and blends – you can see in your profile the stats on that.

We first look at our long list of brands and review each one. (click for larger view)

We then search on the name and find the appropriate source.

Then we edit the entry to include the link and the about information.  While you can’t see this at this time, as time goes on you’ll be able to review it as we continue to improve.

All of this work is entirely manual and done by one, sometimes two people.

If we deny a brand its usually because it isn’t one or is misspelled, or does not fit correctly.  That brand is not inserted into the master database, but you do keep it in your own listing so as not to lose it.
